Straight from the prestigious Riverside County Animal Shelter (Jurupa Valley chapter, thank you), Soba (formerly known as Rocket — though that name lives on in spirit when he goes full turbo) is a one-year-old mystery mix of Pit Bull, possible Staffy, and probably marshmallow. He's the canine embodiment of "cool, calm, and collected"... until he decides it’s time to show off his vertical leap.
Adopted on 7/27/2025 after catching our eye as the only dog not losing his mind in the shelter block, Soba quickly proved that still waters run deep — and sometimes run fast. While every other dog barked and bounced, Soba sat back like a wise old monk with a “snack first, chaos later” philosophy. Once outside, though, he let his inner zoomie-goblin fly, revealing a whole other side that definitely did not match his resume.
With his slick grey-and-white coat (or white-and-grey? Jury’s out), compact frame, and surprisingly graceful bounce, Soba looks like a tuxedo-clad gymnast who hasn’t yet realized the Olympics aren’t taking applications from dogs. He’s brand new to our pack, but already shows signs of being a thoughtful, food-motivated student — especially when the class is “Don’t jump on the humans.”
Socially, Soba’s a vibe. Friendly with people, non-reactive with dogs, and generally uninterested in drama, he met his new housemate Udon (a certified snack-thief and self-proclaimed chaos ambassador) with calm curiosity. Despite Udon’s initial protest, Soba just sat there politely — now they’re basically fused at the hip, like a meatball and spaghetti noodle with legs.
Still early in his glow-up journey, Soba is working on his manners, decoding the mystery of toys, and learning that jumping is not, in fact, a love language. But with that calm energy, a wag that means business, and the heart of a quiet philosopher, he’s already showing us that the best kind of love is the kind that arrives unexpectedly, wrapped in a speckled coat and quiet dignity.
Adopt, don’t shop — because sometimes the chillest dogs come with the silliest names, the bounciest jumps, and the biggest hearts.
